ASH Annual Meeting Copyright and Reuse Policy

• Authors assign copyright of the abstract to ASH upon submission, unless one of the authors is a U.S. Federal employee acting within the scope of their employment, in which case the Abstract may not be subject to copyright under U.S. law. To the extent any such rights exist, ASH retains all rights permitted by law. This means that the copyrights in abstracts submitted to the 68th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition are owned by ASH. The abstracts are published in a supplemental issue of Blood and may not be republished without express consent.

• Other than the rights specifically granted to abstract authors (see the “Rights Granted to Abstract Authors” section below), any reproduction, distribution, transmission, derivative works (such as summaries) or other use of the abstracts in whole or in part, whether by electronic, mechanical, or other means, is prohibited without the express written permission of ASH.

Subject only to acknowledgment of ASH’s copyright, which should be printed conspicuously in the following form: “© American Society of Hematology (Year). Reused with permission”, ASH grants each of the abstract authors the following royalty-free license to:,

• Reprint the abstract in print collections of the author’s own writing.
• Reproduce the abstract solely for use in courses the author is teaching. If the author is employed by an academic institution, that institution may also reproduce the abstract for course teaching.
• Distribute a photocopies of the abstract to colleagues, but only for non-commercial purposes.
• Post a copy of the abstract on the author’s personal website, non-commercial departmental website, and/or the university intranet. A hyperlink to the abstract on the Blood website must be included.
• Submit the original abstract for consideration by another entity, such as another meeting, provided it is not published by that entity.
• Present the abstract orally in its entirety for non-commercial purposes (subject to compliance with the ASH annual meeting’s embargo policy).
• Submit a rewrite/updated analysis to another entity, such as another meeting. 
• Use the abstract in theses and/or dissertations.

Authors reusing their own abstracts in the above ways do not need to contact Blood for permission. Any permissible reproduction of the abstract in whole, or in part, must be accompanied by an acknowledgment of ASH’s copyright in the following form: © American Society of Hematology (Year). Authors desiring to reuse their own abstract for any other purpose must request permission by visiting the Copyright Clearance Center. All other reuse of abstracts is prohibited absent permission from ASH (see the “Obtaining Permission to Reuse” section below). Any permissible reproduction of the abstract in whole, or in part, must be accompanied by an acknowledgment of ASH’s copyright in the following form: © American Society of Hematology (Year). • Presenters grant ASH an exclusive, worldwide license to all materials presented at the ASH annual meeting (“Presentation and Meeting Materials”), including all slides, written and oral presentations (including visual/audio recordings), posters, and other materials displayed, shown, or otherwise published during the meeting, including but not limited to (a) the exclusive right to broadcast, record, create plain language summaries, and otherwise use their presentation in whole or in part, including all recordings (audio or visual), documents, slides, or other materials displayed or distributed in connection with their presentation (collectively, such audio or visual recordings are referred to as "ASH Works"), in any media whatsoever; and (b) a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, exclusive license to re-present, reproduce, redistribute, and otherwise use (and to license others to use) the ASH Works in any and all media throughout the world. Presenters further grant to ASH the right to use (and to license others to use) the presenter's name, image, likeness, voice, and biographical information in connection with the ASH Works. Presenters acknowledge that ASH shall be the sole copyright owner of ASH Works.
• Subject to the ASH rights granted herein, Presenters maintain their copyright ownership of Presentation and Meeting Materials.
• Under this exclusive license, presenters acknowledge and agree that any reuse of such materials requires prior written permission from ASH for its reuse by the Presenter or third parties (see the “Reuse of Presentation and Meeting Materials” section below).

• Presenters acknowledge and agree that if they are employed by commercial entities or their studies were sponsored by commercial entities, the Presenter may not license or permit their works to be used by these entities without permission from ASH (see below for contact information).

• Pursuant to the rights licensed exclusively to ASH, written permission from ASH is required to use the Presentation and Meeting Materials, in whole or in part, as well as ASH Works in any media.

• All presentation authors have the right to reuse their Presentation and Meeting Materials without written permission from ASH in the ways listed below. Reuse should acknowledge the ASH annual meeting in the following form: American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting (Year).
  • Reprinting poster, slide set, or excerpts in print collections of the author’s own writing.
  • Reproducing poster, slide set, or excerpts solely for use in courses the author is teaching. If the author is employed by an academic institution, that institution may also reproduce the presentations for course teaching. If the author is employed by commercial entities or their studies were sponsored by commercial entities, the author may not license or permit their works to be reproduced by these entities without permission from ASH.
  • Distributing photocopies of the presentation to colleagues, but only for non-commercial purposes.
  • Posting a copy of the presentation materials on the author’s personal website, non-commercial departmental website, and/or the university intranet.
  • Presenting the presentation orally or in poster format in its entirety for non-commercial purposes, provided that the ASH annual meeting’s embargo policy is followed.
  • Using the posters, slides, or excerpts in theses and/or dissertations.
  • Reusing the figures and tables created by the author specifically for the presentation in future works.
